The clutch removal tool isn't that expensive and you can cobble together tools to disassemble the clutches, after all you aren't going into business rebuilding clutches, it only has to work once. It sound like it's coming from the clutch area so I cleaned up the sheaves and installed My clutch is showing wear, but l didn't think it was to bad so ordered the round pucks from Hunter Works and installed them, still having the same problem, clunking noise and surging. but I think the thrust washer is rattling around in the shaft. it seems to be running fine just sound like something is coming apart. It appears that when in gear, the belt just jerks like crazy and is very uneven until you get going fast enough (5-10mph) and causes the secondary clutch mechanism to make the clanking noise/jerk. A worn or misadjusted belt or failing clutch causes slipping, shuddering, loss of power, overheating, and can strand you on the trail. I'm just wondering what it is because it sounds weird. I am thinking it is in the primary clutch. Had a squealing noise that comes from the primary clutch area the best that I can tell. As soon as I rev it a little, it stops. It does it in both low and high gear going forward (haven't tried it 4 wheel drive).
